Summer 2020 Announcement
Dear Budding Roses Families,

We hope you are all staying safe, healthy, and engaged this summer.
Budding Roses has made the difficult decision to cancel our in-person summer camp this year due to Covid-19. While we will miss playing and learning alongside campers, we ultimately decided that keeping our community safe was our highest priority and that the risk from Covid-19 is too great for a full in-person camp this summer.
In lieu of an in-person camp, Budding Roses is compiling kits of activities that we will deliver to registered participants!
In the wake of the murders of George Floyd, Breona Taylor, Tony McDade, and countless other victims of police brutality -- and the subsequent uprising led by Black youth across the country -- we believe this is a vital time for youth to be heard. We want to continue learning together about racial justice in our city and in our communities, and so we have decided to focus the majority of our kits on racial justice and anti-racism. We seek to promote collective problem solving on issues of policing, abolition, community health, and safety. We hope that through providing supplies and some guidance, we can continue to empower each other and learn together from the shared experiences of the Budding Roses community.
Our kits will include a variety of materials (resources, games, zines, snacks, activities) that we hope facilitate conversations and learning about race and its intersection with topics such as gender, the environment, disability justice, youth activism, and so much more. If safety allows, we will have a few in-person meet-ups in an outside, socially distanced environment -- to be decided.
If you are interested in receiving a kit, please register by July 17th. We will be prioritizing returning campers and new BIPOC campers first. If you are a camper and wish to contribute ideas to the kits, please let us know in your registration! Register for your activity kit here. As always, Budding Roses is free of charge, open to Portland-area youth in 4th-8th grade.

Esperamos que todos se mantengan seguros, saludables y comprometidos este verano.
Budding Roses ha tomado la difícil decisión de cancelar nuestro campamento de verano en persona este año debido a Covid-19. Si bien echaremos de menos jugar y aprender junto a los campistas, finalmente decidimos que mantener nuestra comunidad segura era nuestra máxima prioridad, y que el riesgo de Covid-19 es demasiado grande para un campamento completo en persona este verano.
¡En lugar de un campamento en persona, Budding Roses está compilando kits de actividades que entregaremos a los participantes registrados!
A raíz de los asesinatos de George Floyd, Breona Taylor, Tony McDade e innumerables víctimas de la brutalidad policial, y el levantamiento liderado por jóvenes negrxs en todo el país, creemos que este es un momento vital para que los jóvenes sean escuchados. Queremos seguir aprendiendo juntos sobre la justicia racial en nuestra ciudad y en nuestras comunidades, por lo que hemos decidido centrar la mayoría de nuestros kits en la justicia racial y el antirracismo. Buscamos promover la resolución colectiva de problemas en temas de vigilancia, abolición, salud comunitaria y seguridad. Esperamos que al proporcionar suministros y alguna orientación, podamos continuar fortaleciéndonos mutuamente y aprender juntos de las experiencias compartidas de la comunidad de Budding Roses.
Nuestros kits incluirán una variedad de materiales (recursos, juegos, revistas, bocadillos, actividades) que esperamos faciliten las conversaciones y el aprendizaje sobre la raza y su intersección con temas como género, medio ambiente, justicia de discapacidad, activismo juvenil y mucho más. Como siempre, Budding Roses es gratis, abierto a los jóvenes del área de Portland de 4º a 8º grado.
